Preparing for a move can be a daunting experience; however, with the right plan you will be able to tackle all the decisions, logistics, and details in a manageable way. We have put together a guide that will help you map out your plan all the way from decisions and logistics to details! Follow these three steps and efficiently achieve your move:

Step 1: Decisions

You must make a lot of decisions prior to beginning the moving process. Knowing the answers to these questions will jumpstart your decision making and allow you to make a more comprehensive plan. Make sure to know the answer to the following questions with plenty of time in advance.

  • What’s my moving budget?
  • Will I hire a moving manager or will I orchestrate the move by myself?
  • Will I hire a moving company?
  • Will I purchase moving insurance?

Step 2: Logistics

Moving can be challenging without the proper supplies and help. Some items may be hard to move and others may be fragile, but there are ways to mitigate any damages to your valuables with proper preparation.

  • Get packing supplies
  • Plan on how to pack tricky items that are valuable, fragile, and/or heavy
  • Interview multiple moving companies and choose wisely
  • Pack your house in order of least used to most used

Step 3: Details

We know it’s a pain to think about details of your new home when you have barely packed your old one. However, you will be grateful to have taken care of these details when you settle into your new place.

  • Update your mailing address
  • Transfer utilities
  • Cancel trash/recycling pickup
